I am grateful for the opportunity to honor our 1976 Track and Field W.P.I.A.L Champions. I have vivid memories of my experience with them and what a positive group of young men they were. In the pre-season booklet given to each team member, we, the coaching staff comprised of myself, Tom La Buff and the late Ralph Ingersoll, made it very clear that we had many expectations of them. We asked them to set high goals, to emphasize team first and individuality second and to dedicate themselves to each other. They immediately collectively sat down with us and decided they were going to be the best in the West. Then, most importantly, we told them to believe in themselves and visualize winning the title on a daily basis. They came through with flying colors and the rest is history. I am convinced that the qualities that made these young men successful, have served them well in their personal and professional lives. I am blessed to have had the opportunity of sharing a small part of my life with them. They certainly have had a positive influence on my life and my coaching career.
